CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (WLS) -- A former Crystal Lakes high school choir director is being investigated for having sex with former students, police said Wednesday.
Police began investigating in late October after a District 155 staff member told police that another staff member was providing alcohol to former Crystal Lake Central High School students and engaging in sexual activities with them at his home.
Arrest warrants were issued for Justin Hubly, 35, of Crystal Lake on two counts of misdemeanor battery and one count of unlawful delivery of alcoholic on Tuesday, police said. Hubly was taken into custody and released after posting $10,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for December 27.
Hubly resigned from Crystal Lake High School three weeks ago over what at the time was described by school officials as a personnel matter.
Parents said there had been rumors of parties involving students at his home for a while. Police said they are investigating the possibility that Hubly was engaged in more than one inappropriate relationship.
Hubly had been the choir director at Central since 2004. He was also the president of the teacher's association.
In a statement released Wednesday, the Community High School District 155 said, "We have taken appropriate actions to ensure there is no interruption in our student's learning. We are also cooperating with local authorities."
One parent said this is not the first time this has happened in Crystal Lake.
"I've seen it before, it was unfortunate. He went to prison as he should have and if this man's guilty, I certainly hope he would face jail time, a long time, and if not then not," he said.
Police said Hubly could still face additional charges.
