Miscommunication triggers school lockdown
Cicero police said a miscommunication led to a lockdown at Abe Lincoln Elementary School in the west suburb Thursday morning.

CICERO, Ill. (WLS) -- Cicero police said a miscommunication led to a lockdown at Abe Lincoln Elementary School in the west suburb Thursday morning.

School officials said a parent who had a scheduled meeting with a teacher got lost trying to find the classroom. He had signed in at the main office, as required, but did not have an escort.

Cicero police were called after the parent opened the door the wrong door, entering a classroom and a student reported seeing a man walking around the building. Police looked through surveillance video and conducted a search of the school. They lifted the lockdown after determining it was a miscommunication.

"Apparently there was a misunderstanding. The gentleman did go to the room, tried to open the room," Supt. Rodolfo Hernandez, Cicero School District 99, said.

Some parents said they received robocalls about the lockdown, so some went to the school, located at 3545 South 61st Avenue, to find police on the roof and squad cars blocking off surrounding streets.

No one was injured in the incident, and police said the parent will not face charges.
