Gov. JB Pritzker on fence breach: 'We're not going to stand for any mayhem'

Gov. JB Pritzker spoke to CNN after protesters breached a security fence near the United Center, resulting in at least four arrests.

"It was brief, that breach, and the police actually stepped in and did a great job," he said. "The superintendent of police came and backed up his own men, and frankly that's the way it's gonna be. Obviously, we've got people who are concerned about the war in the Middle East and they're going to express themselves, and we're going to protect their right to express themselves, but we're not going to stand for any mayhem.

CNN asked Gov. JB Pritkzer about protestors breaching the security fence north of the United Center.

Arrests made after protesters breach security fence on north side of United Center

An unknown number of people were arrested after protesters breached a security fence on the north side of the United Center.

Protesters were able to breach a security permimeter outside the United Center on the first day of the DNC. Chuck Goudie reports live.

While Capitol Police wearing gas masks could be seen, it was Chicago police officers in riot gear who were called in to handle the situation. They formed a barricade to block the breached fence and pulled protesters down from the fencing inside the secured area. Several people were taken into custody who had gone through the gap in the fence.

No skirmishes or scuffles broke out as police removed the protesters back to the permitted area for the demonstration and replaced the iron fencing panels to restore the barrier.

CPD Supt. Larry Snelling was also at the scene overseeing the response.
