McHenry teachers reach tentative deal
McHenry District 156 teachers and school board members have reached a tentative deal to end the multi-day strike.

McHENRY, Ill. (WLS) -- Teachers in McHenry District 156 have reached a tentative agreement to end their strike, meaning that students may return to class early next week.

A tentative agreement was reached around 1 a.m. Saturday; a meeting is planned for 3 p.m. Monday at McHenry High School-West Campus to ratify that agreement. If that happens, classes could resume by Tuesday.

It's been a very long week for students, staff and parents. Teachers walked off the job Oct. 1 after the school board and the teachers union failed to reach a new contract for compensation and insurance.

"One of the things we were the most concerned about was the loss of our salary schedule and I can tell you that the current contract has a salary schedule in it," said Heidi Dunn, teachers spokesperson.

In the meantime, Homecoming festivities planned for this week, including the football and dance - were postponed.
