BROOKFIELD, Ill. (WLS) -- Two Mexican gray wolf puppies that were born last month at Brookfield Zoo have been released into the wild as part of a conservation effort.
Blaze and Brooke were born at the zoo on April 25. Five days later, they were flown to Arizona to be placed with a wild wolf pack that has a litter of a similar age. The receiving pack will then raise Blaze and Brooke as their own.
Brookfield Zoo officials said this "pup fostering" technique shows promise to improve the genetic diversity of the wild wolf population.
