MORTON GROVE, Ill. (WLS) -- A 48-year-old Chicago woman was killed Friday night in a hit-and-run crash in north suburban Morton Grove, police said.
The victim was identified as Denise Cavada, according to Morton Grove police. At about 10 p.m. Friday, she was driving home after an evening of playing bingo with her best friend when the crash occurred near Golf and Shermer roads, resulting in her vehicle splitting in half.
Witnesses said the other vehicles involved may have been drag racing. Witnesses saw two cars racing down Golf Road when they collided with an SUV.
Police have not confirmed the number or type of vehicles involved in the crash. Investigators said they are searching for a driver involved after witnesses said they saw the driver of one car jump out and run away.
Cavada's best friend, Yolanda Daughrity, said they met Friday evening at Carmel Hall Bingo in Melrose Place. She was the last to see Cavada, who was slated to work on Saturday.
The best friends first met 10 years ago during a night of bingo.
"She's my other half, and I'm gonna miss her," Daughrity said. "She was kinda my other half."
