MORTON GROVE, Ill. (WLS) -- Halloween is just around the corner, and that means plenty of opportunities for a good scare. Morton Grove is home to one of the top haunted houses in the country.
House of Torment runs through Nov. 7. The action-packed thrill ride features sets comparable to horror movies, with animatronic monsters and iconic characters.
This year, House of Torment is teaming up with the Don't Be a Monster Campaign. Together with 13 haunted houses around the U.S., the campaign educates students about the dangers of bullying. The partnership with haunted houses allows presentations to be at no cost to the schools.
Tricia Poreda, a presenter for Don't Be a Monster, and wardrobe manager at House of Torment Mara Kupiec joined ABC7 to talk about the campaign and give tips on how you can create a monstrously good Halloween costume.
COSTUME TIPS:
Buy clothes at discount retail stores or second hand stores.
Use (Rite) dyes to distress costumes and cutting them up w scissors or dirty them up anyway you want depending on your specific look.
Research online for ideas for inspiration for your piece as well as for makeup.
Use household products or objects at from home to make a costume.
Use your imagination. If you're going for a simple cat make sure you have the basics: whiskers, cat eyes and tail, but make it your own style of costume.
