HAMMOND, Ind. -- A southwest suburban man was killed when he was struck by a car early Saturday on the Indiana Toll Road in Hammond.

Blake Parker, 30, suffered blunt force injuries in a crash on eastbound I-90 at the 0.9 mile marker in Hammond, according to a statement from the Lake County coroner's office.

He had been driving a maroon 2010 Nissan Maxima eastbound when his vehicle hit the back of a semi at 3:33 a.m., according to Indiana State Police.

Both drivers had pulled over after the crash, and Parker was standing outside his vehicle when he was hit by a 2010 Dodge Charger, authorities said.

Parker, who lived in Summit, was pronounced dead at the scene, the coroner's office said.

The driver of the Charger was taken to Saint Margaret Franciscan Health in Hammond with non-life-threatening injuries, state police said.

No citations had been issued in relation to the crash as of Saturday morning, according to state police.
