13-year-old bicyclist killed after being hit by truck in Burbank

BURBANK, Ill. (WLS) -- A 13-year-old boy riding a bicycle was struck and killed Friday afternoon by a dump truck in south suburban Burbank, police said.

The boy was crossing Latrobe Avenue at 87th Street when he was hit by the truck, which was making a right turn onto Latrobe into a construction zone, according to Burbank police. First responders were dispatched to the scene at approximately 2:27 p.m.

The boy, who was identified as Brian Schrader of Burbank, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Police said the driver, who worked for Frankfort-based RJ & R Excavating, was cited for failing to exercise due care. There is no indication drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident, police said.
