CHICAGO (WLS) -- A lawsuit has been filed on behalf of the family of a 14-year-old boy who was fatally shot by Chicago police, officials said.
Pedro Rios, Jr., was killed on July 4, 2014, near Cicero and Berenice avenues in the city's Northwest Side.
The complaint alleges that after encountering Rios at the intersection, police pursued him and then struck him with their squad car. The lawsuit also accuses one of the officers of fatally shooting Rios twice in the back.
Chicago police have argued that Rios was carrying a gun, though the complaint alleges that the officers' lives were not in danger and that the shooting was unwarranted.
The law offices representing the family, Lane & Lane, plan to host a press conference Thursday afternoon.
