WOODSTOCK, Ill. (WLS) -- A man has been charged with aggravated battery to a child after his 4-month-old son was hospitalized with brain and skull injuries, officials said.

Cody Pennington, 20, called 911 Saturday after he observed that the infant was uncontrollably crying and had breathing difficulties, police said. The infant was treated for hemorrhaging on its brain and a fractured skull - injuries that that hospital officials say are consistent with violent shaking of an infant.

Hospital officials then contacted police and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, who interviewed both Pennington and the infant's mother.

Pennington was arrested Sunday and faces three counts of aggravated battery to an infant. He is being held on $250,000 bond.
