WOODSTOCK, Ill. (WLS) -- A 7-year-old girl was seriously injured when she was struck by a Pace bus while with her father in north suburban Woodstock.

A Pace bus spokesman says a contracted driver hit the girl Tuesday afternoon in a Walmart parking lot.

As rescuers arrived, witnesses said the girl was talking with her dad, but her condition quickly worsened. A source said the 7-year-old girl suffered serious injuries above her waist.

Firefighters called for a chopper because she had life threatening injuries. The girl was airlifted to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

Some McHenry County residents described the parking lot as hectic and often filled with cars, people, and Pace buses passing through after making stops.

Pace said the driver was tested for drugs and alcohol, as is standard procedure in incidents like this.
