Chicago City Council may vote on ridesharing this week

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago's City Council may vote on regulations for ride-sharing services this week.

Former Chicago Police Department Superintendent Jody Weis announced his support of stricter rules Monday morning.

In a letter of support, Weis said ride-sharing companies like Uber and Lyft should be subject to public safety laws, like police background checks and drug tests.

He said a bill approved this month by the Illinois legislature includes his three suggestions, but Chicago's proposed ordinance does not.
