KANKAKEE, Ill. (WLS) -- LeAundre Harrington is recovering at the hospital after a convicted killer knocked him unconscious at the Kankakee County Jail.
Harrington's family has asked for privacy. Kankakee County Sheriff Tim Bukowski said the correctional officer is "improving."
Kamron Taylor, 23, jumped Harrington early Wednesday morning, beat him, choked him and stole his uniform and car. Harrington was targeted because he is black and about the same size as Taylor.
Meanwhile, officers continue search homes in Kankakee for Taylor. They spoke with Taylor's contacts and canvassed the neighborhood he was known to frequent.
"Be aware. Wanted everyone to know the individual used in this area. Keep your eyes open for anything unusual," Kevin Baker said.
