Man charged with stealing packages in Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Ill. (WLS) -- A Des Plaines man has been charged with stealing packages from homes in the western suburbs, police said.

A witness told police she saw a man walk up to her neighbor's home in Riverside and steal a package. After finding surveillance video, police were able to track down the suspect they identified as Danny Ortiz.

Officers said they found several opened packages in the 29-year-old's car, which was rented. Stolen property included winter jackets, socks, cosmetics, shoes, sweaters, household products and other Christmas gifts with a total value of $1,140.

Ortiz was arrested and charged with felony theft.
