CHICAGO (WLS) -- Outgoing Illinois Governor Pat Quinn is heading to Maryland Sunday night, where he will deliver Christmas cards made by local students to wounded soldiers.

In previous years, Quinn has visited soldiers in Germany, but this year he is headed to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, since fewer United States soldiers are now in Germany.

"I think it's important from the hearts of the people of Illinois, and especially our students, that we send them holiday greetings, wishes for a speedy recovery that our hearts are ever at their service," Quinn said.

Quinn leaves office next month when Governor Elect Bruce Rauner will be sworn into office.
