CHICAGO (WLS) -- It's a challenge we've probably all faced: the money in your bank account won't cover all the bills you owe.
You're left to sort out who to pay and when. That's a big part of what the Illinois comptroller does. We talked with candidates Susana Mendoza and Leslie Munger.
Republican Leslie Munger was appointed to the Comptroller's position by Governor Bruce Rauner after the death of Judy Baar Topinka. She's a former brand management executive with Helene Curtis/Unilever.
Munger has said she's committed to "ensuring that Illinois keeps its promises for a change."
Democratic candidate Susana Mendoza is Chicago's City Clerk.
She was sworn in for her second term in May 2015. Mendoza also served six terms as a state representative. She has said the comptroller should be, "an independent truth telling fiscal watchdog."
