North Shore Treasures lets you support the Les Turner ALS Foundation while you find out how much the treasures in your home may be worth.

WILMETTE, Ill. (WLS) -- A fun event in the northern suburbs Saturday lets you support the Les Turner ALS Foundation while you find out how much the treasures in your home may be worth.

Daniel Buck Soules is an internationally recognized fine art and antiques appraiser and Alison Neumann is a well-respected Chicago-area jewelry appraiser. They joined us in the studio with more on the North Shore Treasures appraisal event at Plaza del Lago in Wilmette.

North Shore Treasures

Saturday, Sept. 13

10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Plaza del Lago

1515 Sheridan Rd., Wilmette

Suggested $10 donation per item. All proceeds donated to the Les Turner ALS Foundation. Limit three items per person.

Tips for taking care of valuables:

  • Don't keep items in extreme temperatures.
  • Keep items out of direct light.
  • Don't store items in the basement or attic.
  • Don't try to clean items on your own. Have them cleaned by a professional.
  • For jewelry, make sure you have it looked at by a jeweler every six to eight weeks and cleaned. This helps the jewelry last longer over the years without any breaks or lost diamonds/gemstones.
