CHICAGO (WLS) -- Two pedestrians, including a young boy, were struck in a crash involving a vehicle that was being pursued by a Chicago squad car Tuesday afternoon in the city's Gresham neighborhood, officials said.
A 9-year-old boy and a 28-year-old woman were crossing the street near 83rd Street and South Racine when they were hit. They were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries
Earlier, at about 12:15 p.m., a beige Buick Century was pulled over by police near 83rd and South May for a minor traffic offense, police said. The vehicle, which had three people inside, stopped but then sped away, running a red light near Racine. The Buick hit
another vehicle. It was immediately unclear which vehicle involved in the crash hit the two pedestrians.
A 72-year-old man and a 69-year-old woman inside the second vehicle were transported in good condition to Holy Cross Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The three people inside the Buick were not injured and taken into custody, police said. A weapon and narcotics were recovered.
