Police chase ends in fatal crash on South Side

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A police chase, which started after officers witnessed a shooting on Chicago's South Side, ended with a crash that left one person dead and two people injured.



Police said they saw someone fire shots in the in the 8000-block of South Manistee Avenue in the city's South Chicago neighborhood around 9:45 p.m. Sunday and get into a vehicle.



The officers chased the suspect's car until it crashed into another vehicle and then into a tree in the 9200-block of South Jeffery Boulevard in the city's Pill Hill neighborhood.



Police discovered two men were inside the vehicle pursued. One of those men was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was transported to the hospital, where his condition stabilized. Police did not release their ages.



A woman in the vehicle that was struck in the crash suffered minor injuries and was taken to Trinity Hospital.



Police said a 24-year-old man was found shot in the left thigh at the scene of the shooting. He was transported to South Shore Hospital, where his condition stabilized. Authorities said the victim is a documented gang member and the shooting appears to be gang-related.
