President Obama wraps up Chicago visit
CHICAGO (WLS) -- US President Barack Obama wrapped up a weekend in Chicago with a fundraiser for Democratic Senate Candidate Tammy Duckworth held Sunday afternoon at the Stony Island Arts Bank on Chicago's South Side.
"It was great to be in our own house, sleeping in our own bed, we were a little disoriented because the Cubs look like they might win the World Series," Obama said.
Duckworth, who is trying to unseat Republican incumbent Mark Kirk, spent the morning focusing on a different kind of race...the Chicago Marathon.
"This is why I love this marathon so much, I love this city and get to see all the neighborhoods," Duckworth said.
Back at the fundraiser, Obama praised Duckworth and attacked her opponent. He also took shots at presidential candidate Donald Trump just hours before he faces off against Hillary Clinton in the second presidential debate.
"One of the most disturbing things about this election is the unbelievable rhetoric coming from the top of the Republican ticket, I don't need to repeat it, there are children in the room," Obama said.
Obama signed a disaster declarations for the states of Florida and Georgia on Sunday. He has been getting updates on the storm from his Homeland Security advisor.
On Saturday, the president did not attend any Democratic fundraisers. Instead, he spent most of the day golfing at Olympia Fields Country Club. The president then spent time with some friends who live in the area before heading back to his Kenwood home to watch Saturday night's Cubs game.
