FRESNO, Calif. -- Santa Claus may need to upgrade his insurance policy after leaving a little more than presents at one Central Fresno home.
"I looked out the window and I noticed the knocked-over fountain and I was like, I wonder how that got knocked over," said Chelsea West. "And we came outside and we saw the sleigh marks and then the presents all over."
The West family woke up Thursday morning to a mess in their front yard. Along with the fountain and marks in the grass, they found antlers stuck in the fence.
They soon found a handwritten note signed by none other than Kris Kringle himself. Santa explained how Rudolph missed his landing on the roof and got his antlers wedged in the fence. Santa had to break them off so they could get to other houses. But not to worry because they will grow back.
The Wests say they understand why Santa couldn't explain himself in person but are happy he left a note.
"We can't really be mad at him because I understand he's got a lot of houses to go to and he's quite in a hurry, so I imagine this kind of slowed him down a little bit," said Dustin West.
They say this is the second time Rudolph has accidentally sent Santa into the yard. He got his antlers lodged in the fence seven years ago as well.
