SIU-Carbondale gunfire reports not confirmed, police say

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WLS) -- Students at Southern Illinois University - Carbondale were ordered to evacuate Lawson Hall Friday evening after there were reports of a possible gunman on campus.

An SIUC spokesperson said late Friday that gunshots had been reported around 9:15 p.m. Friday, but police found no evidence of that. Police gave the all-clear about an hour later.

Officials said there is evidence of some type of altercation with a student group.
