Korean War vet gets his diploma after missing 1953 graduation

DeKALB, Ill. (WLS) -- More than 60 years late, a decorated Korean War veteran finally gets his diploma from Northern Illinois University.

Gus Trantham was serving in the Navy back in 1953 and missed his graduation.

Now at the age of 85, he fulfilled his long-time dream of picking up his diploma.

Gus grew up in Maywood. He's now retired and lives with his wife Fran in South Carolina.
