CHICAGO (WLS) -- Commuters could soon be paying more to ride the South Shore trains that provide service between Chicago and northwest Indiana.

The agency that runs the trains wants a 2.5 percent fare hike to pay for improvement projects. Five meetings are scheduled starting Tuesday and ending next week.

If approved, the new fare increase would take effect starting June 15 and continue for two years.
