2 officers injured in Englewood hit-and-run

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Police are searching for two men who ran from the scene of a hit-and-run crash in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood that injured two officers.

A vehicle sideswiped an unmarked patrol car near West Garfield Boulevard and South Union Avenue around 10:40 p.m. Monday, police said. The police car slammed into a fence and a building.

The two officers who were inside the unmarked patrol were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where they are listed in good condition.

Investigators said the two men inside the offending vehicle ran from the scene. Officers are searching for them. Police did not release a description of the suspects.

Sources close to the investigation said the hit-and-run crash occurred during a chase on Chicago's South Side. However, police said Tuesday the two incidents are unrelated.

Sources said multiple police districts were pursuing a stolen white Audi SUV that was wanted in a recent robbery. The chase started at West 63rd Street and South Wentworth Avenue and continued on the southbound lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway into Chicago's Roseland neighborhood.

One of the suspects inside the Audi bailed out of the SUV near East 80th Street and South Indiana Avenue and was taken into custody after a short foot chase, sources said.
