BRADLEY, Ill. (WLS) -- This week, we feature Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School on ABC7's Friday Flyover, celebrating high school sports!
The Boilermakers will take on the Tigers in Urbana, Ill., Friday night. Junior Varsity starts at 5 p.m. Varsity kicks off at 7 p.m.
Bradley-Bourbonnais' home pink-out game will be Friday, Oct. 14, where the No. 27-ranked team will face No. 14-ranked Lincoln-Way East High School.
Fun facts:
-The soccer and football teams are undefeated.
-The band has five state championships in the last ten years and has finished in the Top 3 in the last ten years.
-1,500 of the 2,100 students are part of Red Surge, the student pep organization.
-The robotics team qualified for Worlds last year during its inaugural season.
-BBCHS has 55 Illinois State Scholars.
-The school offers 24 sports and 22 clubs for students to get involved in.
-It's the only high school to have two signed UFC fighters (Brian Ebersole and Mike Russow) as former graduates.
History:
The school opened in 1948 at this location with an enrollment of 195 and a freshmen class of 70. This year, we have 2,095 students, 526 of them freshmen.
Famous Alums:
-Tom Prince, a catcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates, LA Dodgers and Minnesota Twins. He had a 17-year career in the MLB.
-Abbie Boudrea, an ABC News Correspondent in Los Angeles.
-Kelli Bates, a junior volleyball player and three-year starter for the No. 1-ranked Wisconsin Badgers.
-Brian Ebersole and Mike Russow in the UFC. Brian known for his "hairrow" and cartwheel knockout kick.
Awards:
-U.S. News and World Report Bronze recognition for the best high schools in America for 2015 and 2016.
