DES PLAINES, Ill. (WLS) -- This week, we feature Maine West High School on ABC7's Friday Flyover, celebrating high school sports!

The Warriors will take on Vernon Hills High School Friday night. Varsity kicks off at 7 p.m.

Famous Graduates:

-Adrian Fulle (class of 1990) is a director and writer of films such as Love 101.

-James Kahn (class of 1965) is a physician, author and screenwriter whose works include an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, 4 episodes of Star Trek: Voyager, and 21 episodes of Melrose Place. His books include the novelizations for Return of the Jedi, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and the recent collaboration with George Lucas to write the 25th Anniversary edition of the original Star Wars trilogy.

-Jim Lindeman is a former Major League Baseball player who played in the World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals.

-Jeff Daniel Phillips played one of the cavemen in a series of Geico television commercials.

-Tyler Ladendorf, is a current baseball player for Oakland Athletics

-Dean Starkey (class of 1985) 1997 World Championships Pole-vault Bronze Medalist.

-Jim Blue is co-creator of LinkIn.

- Michael O'Reilley (class of 1990) is an editor at ABC7.

Fun Facts:

-Maine West has 2042 students.

-We offer 21 different AP Courses and are on the Washington Post's Most Challenging High Schools List.

-We boast over 50 clubs and organizations, including the newest: 3D Innovations, Ping Pong, Hip Hop, Pokemon Go, and Sign Language Club.

-Our marching band just finished third in the Naperville Central Marching Band Classic.

-The school opened in 1959.

-We have 27 sports offered for both boys and girls, including Water Polo (our newest addition) and fencing.

-Our graduates attend such great schools as Yale, Harvard, MIT, Colgate, U of I, various state schools, etc.
