Kids with cancer sworn in to LAPD
Without any training, a group of 28 kids raised their right hand and took an oath to join the Los Angeles Police Department on Thursday.

LOS ANGELES -- They came from as far away as Alaska and as near as Southern California to embark on an adventure. Without any training, a group of 28 kids raised their right hands and took an oath to join the Los Angeles Police Department on Thursday.

The honor was to last only a day, but it would be a day to remember.

"When I was little I always wanted to be a police officer, so it kind of makes me feel like one," Pennsylvania resident Tyler Miller said.

Miller's dream was made possible through the Sunshine Kids, an organization dedicated to helping kids with cancer since 1982.

"It's the essential of what we do as an organization and that is to let them know how important they are and that they're not alone," actor G.W. Bailey said.

After being sworn in, the young hopefuls were assigned a partner and hit the streets of Los Angeles.

From Universal City, they were driven to Raleigh Studios in Hollywood for a tour, then whisked away to lunch with Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck.

"We love today. They have a good time. The police department pulls out all the stops and tries to make it a special day for them," Beck said.

Austin Keller, from Pennsylvania, wasn't disappointed.

"I just like everything about California so far. I've just had a blast this week," Keller said.
