CHICAGO (WLS) -- Pilots for Chicago-based United Airlines pilots approved a contract extension on Friday that also includes pay raises.

The airline pilots association says 79 percent of pilots who voted agreed to the two year extension.

United said the contract will create stability for the airline and the pilots.

The airline struggled to combine work forces after its 2010 merger with Continental when new management took over last September it vowed to improve labor relations.
