CHICAGO (WLS) -- A move by Comer Children's Hospital to raise the age for trauma patients is being called a step in the right direction. The hospital currently treats patients 15 years old and younger, but plans call for extending care to 16 and 17-year-olds.
But for years, there have been calls for the University of Chicago to reopen its adult trauma center. And protestors said on Tuesday, that hasn't changed.
"Though it is a victory for the coalition, it is not our end goal. It was not our main goal. Our main goal is that the South Side of Chicago be provided with a level one trauma center," said Veronica Morris-Moore.
The University of Chicago expects the change will mean an extra 100 trauma patients each year.
