See what Memorial Day events are happening around the Chicago area

CHICAGO (WLS) -- We're heading into Memorial Day weekend, the traditional kick-off to summer travel.

Chicago Memorial Day Parade - State and Lake to Van Buren

Thousands of people are expected downtown on Saturday for the annual Chicago Memorial Day Parade, honoring veterans and active duty military. The parade steps off at noon from State and Lake, traveling south to Van Buren.


Wreath Laying Ceremony - Daley Plaza

Preceding the parade, the Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Eternal Flame will take place on Daley Plaza at 11 a.m.

Farmer's markets - Chicago area

If you head out early on Saturday morning, you can swing by one of the neighborhood farmers markets. Several are already open, including Division between State and Clark and in Beverly at 95th and Longwood

Tails on the Trails - Morton Arboretum

The Morton Arboretum has gone to the dogs - well, it will, on Saturday - with Tails on the Trails. Visitors can bring their canine companions along to roam 16 miles of woods, prairies and other natural landscapes 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Cirque Shanghai - Navy Pier

Cirque Shanghai is back at Navy Pier with a new show, Cirque Shanghai: Warriors. Performances are at the Skyline Stage, and run through Sept. 1.

Bike the Drive - Lake Shore Drive

It's the one day of the year when cars are not allowed on Lake Shore Drive. Bike the Drive is from 5:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Some 20,000 bicyclists will be enjoying the lakefront view along the drive, accompanied only by the sounds of birds and waves.

Ghost Boat Haunted Canyon Tour - Wisconsin Dells

If you're thinking road trip this weekend, Wisconsin Dells has several new restaurants, shops and attractions, including Ghost Boat - a nightly tour of haunted canyons along the Wisconsin River.
