Low impact exercise best for overweight boys

The best exercise for overweight boys is low impact such as walking or riding bikes.

French researchers tested a small group of 12-year-old boys, both thin and obese. During biking exercises researchers measured the amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide inhaled by the boys. They found that obese boys burned the most fat when they worked out at a modest intensity. Once their workouts increased to vigorous levels, their bodies used less fat compared with normal weight boys.

The study is reported in the online edition of the British Journal of Sports Medicine.
