The Chicago adventurer disappeared while flying in September of 2007.
Fossett's widow, Peggy, said the discovery is, "another step in the process of completing the investigation into the tragic accident that took Steve's life."
Searchers find more bones near Fossett crash site
Authorities returned to the site in California's Sierra Nevada Wednesday for a last search before winter.
They discovered the bones about a half mile east of where Fossett's plane was discovered earlier this month.
They also found Fossett's shoes and his Illinois driver's license.
