Class of '69 announces $50K scholarship fund

February 18, 2009 (CHICAGO) Several graduates were at Crane Wednesday to announce a $50,000 grant from the Ebert Foundation to provide scholarships for the class of 2009.

Students will receive from $500 to $5,000 that can be used to pay tuition at junior college, four-year college or trade school.

Chaz Ebert, from the class of '69, says she began thinking about scholarships... after hearing of a shooting outside the school.

"Even 40 years ago, I read about Crane only when something negative happened. And, I said, 'It's time to stop that.' You need good press, because you are good students," said Ebert.

Chaz Ebert is the wife of film critic Roger Ebert.
