Durbin says some of the current shoreline structures were built in the early 1900s and no longer faction to protect against storms, flooding and erosion.
Some stretches of the lakefront already have the new design. It includes vertical steel sheet piles to replace damaged wood piles and concrete steps to replace the existing stones.
Durbin says this money is an example of a worthwhile earmark project.
