A Muslim student who falsely claimed that she was attacked on the Elmhurst College campus last year wants to be tried in a mental health court. In October 2008, 19-year-old Safia Jilani of Oak Brook claimed she was beaten by an armed, masked man who made anti-Islamic comments. Elmhurst police later determined that there had been no attack.

She was charged with disorderly conduct.

DuPage County Mental Health Court allows defendants to plead guilty, receive treatment, and then have the charges dismissed following treatment.

A judge will rule on the request next month.
