Hynes gets endorsement for gov race

August 12, 2009 Former U.S. Senator Adlai Stevenson III said he will support Hynes. Stevenson is from one of the best-known political families in Illinois history. He said he can't think of a better way to continue his family's legacy than to endorse Hynes.

The comptroller will face Governor Pat Quinn in the democratic primary. When asked why he would challenge a sitting governor, Stevenson said he's not opposing anyone but is supporting Hynes.

"I'm suggesting that we can do better with Dan Hynes, who commands throughout our government already and has that experience," Stevenson said.

"That somebody of the stature of Adlai Stevenson is stepping out in a primary to say that we need Dan Hynes and he's the right candidate speaks to how important this election is," said Hynes.

Stevenson will also serve as co-chair of Hynes campaign. Governor Quinn says he has no comment on Stevenson's endorsement at this time.
