September 12, 2009 (GRIFFITH, Ind.) --
Indiana police say a 35-year-old man is in custody and is likely to be charged in the murder of two sisters. The victims are 28-year-old Jennifer Evans of Griffith, Ind. and 25-year-old Kristen Kennedy of Chicago. Their bodies were found Friday in Evans' home, where Kennedy had been visiting. They, apparently, were stabbed to death. Then, a fire was set to try to cover up the crime.
Saturday, police investigators removed possible evidence from the home.
"This was not a random act of violence or a domestic act of violence. [I'm] being told by the police that the suspect knew the victims, and this was certainly a targeted crime," Griffith town council President Rick Ryfa said.
Ryfa also said a knife was being analyzed in the Lake County crime lab.
