Quinn promises to restore low-income student funding

September 29, 2009 (CHICAGO) Quinn made the statement Tuesday at the Chicago campus of the University of Illinois.

Funding for the Monetary Award Program -- or MAP -- was slashed in budget cuts. And it doesn't have the money to fund students in the second half of the 2009-2010 academic year.

Naperville leaders consider sales tax City leaders in Naperville are contemplating adding a sales tax to help close a projected $14 million shortfall in next year's budget. The money would also help pay for roadway maintenance.

The tax is just one of the ideas the city's finance department is exploring to raise revenue. It would impact shopping, dining, and filling up on gas.

There's no indication yet what the tax rate would be.
