Quinn hopeful Thomson prison decision will come soon

Governor Pat Quinn is hopeful that by the end of the year Congress will decide whether to use Thomson Correctional Center to house Guantanamo Bay detainees. Federal officials toured the prison last week and again over the weekend.

Critics of the plan including some Republican members of congress think it is too risky. They have sent a letter to the governor with a list of questions they'd like answered, including where trials for the detainees would be held, and where the prisoners would get medical care.

"This is a dispassionate, non-partisan way to layout questions which the governor and the president have to answer anyway. I was very pleased when the governor said he would treat our letter seriously," said Rep. Mark Kirk, (R) 10th District.

Governor Quinn says a federal government takeover of the facility will help create jobs.
