The analysis of thousands of studies by a panel of experts shows no evidence of harm to human babies-- meaning soy formula is probably safe. At issue was whether plant estrogens within soy formula might interfere with a child's hormones causing development problems. While there was no evidence of harm, experts say soy does have biological effects, so parents should keep that in mind.
Many parents switch to soy formula hoping it will be easier on babies tummies.
Pediatricians say the switch is often unnecessary and they still recommend breast feeding above all else.
Experts from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and the National Toxicology Program conducted the research.
