Cicero president wants death for arson suspects

March 9, 2010 (CICERO, Ill.)

At Tuesday's town meeting Dominick said, if any case deserves the death penalty, this tragedy does.

Dominick expressed dismay over cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez's "hesitation" in seeking the death penalty against the owner, Lawrence Myers, and the building manager, Marion Comier.

Cook County state's attorney spokesperson Sally Daly issued the following statement in regards to Dominick's statement:

This was inaccurate in terms of Alvarez's characterization that she was hesitant. There is a comprehensive process in reviewing what cases would be eligible for the death penalty. It is among the most serious decisions and hers will be an informed one and not reactive.

Prosecutors say Myers hired Comier to set the fire so he could collect on an insurance policy.
