Wheaton ends coyote trapping program

March 30, 2010 (CHICAGO)

Complaints are down after a trapper caught five coyotes in Wheaton.

Wheaton began its trapping program earlier this month following reports of aggressive animal behavior. All five captured coyotes had human food in their digestive systems suggesting they had been fed by people.

Wheaton recommends that residents do not feed coyotes because that encourages habitation in their neighborhoods.

The city will review its ordinances to determine whether further restrictions are needed.
