Working the way to weight loss

Researchers had 18 workers at a company in Minneapolis, Minnesota conduct walking meetings. Over a six-month period, the workers lost a combined 156 pounds.

The workers were also given new desks attached to treadmills as well as mobile phones instead of land lines so they could stand or walk around while talking on the phone.

The researchers also created space for a Nintendo Wii video game system and urged people to take the stairs instead of elevators.

The exercise changes were accompanied by nutrition counseling.
