A former Chicago woman was shot and killed while working as a cashier in her new hometown in North Carolina.

Guadalupe Rosas, 59, was shot yesterday inside a Target store in the town of Apex, which is about 15 miles southwest of Raleigh.

Rosas reportedly was preparing to ring up customers when a man walked up and shot her.

When police arrived on the scene, they say the gunman then shot himself.

The gunman also died.

He has been identified as Rosas' former boyfriend. Police say the two dated several years ago.

Several employees and customers suffered minor injuries while trying to escape the store.

Rosas leaves behind several relatives in the Chicago area.
