The tribute began with a solemn service at Thorn Creek Reformed Church in South Holland. That was followed by the fifteenth annual Parade of Lights.
Dozens of fire engines and other emergency vehicles traveled through the streets of South Holland, Thornton and Homewood. The observance ended at the Homewood fire station in honor of Homewood firefighter Brian Carey. He was killed while battling a fire in March.
