Roundtree honored at Chicago awards show

The program honoring Chicago's African American actors, musicians and writers was held Monday at the Illinois Institute of Technology.

The awards honor African Americans for their contributions to the Chicago's theatre scene.

The group chose actor Richard Roundtree for its lifetime achievement award.

Roundtree is best known for the action movie Shaft and its sequels.

He has also appeared in more than 70 other feature films and many television shows.

The Black Theater Alliance Awards was founded to honor African Americans who have achieved excellence in theater, dance, and other performing arts.
