The Howard Brown Health Center will not be forced to close at the end of the year. The agency exceeded its goal of raising $500,000.

People who run the health center celebrated that fundraising achievement.

They report more than 1,400 donors responded to the appeal, helping raise more than $600,000, and the figure continues to grow.

Howard Brown serves more than 36,000 clients each year. It's been serving the gay and lesbian community for more than 35 years.

The agency was plagued with financial problems after mismanagement of funds was discovered earlier this year.

Howard Brown now has a new team running the center.
