The 909th Forward Surgical Team arrived at O'Hare airport Friday evening.
The reunions included hugs and balloons. And for one member, an introduction. Captain Ray Abordo met his 10-month-old son for the first time.
"I'm pretty happy. Like I said, he didn't cry so I'm good with that," said Captain Abordo.
"A year away from your family can take its toll, but when you come through that gate and see your family and your kids standing there, it makes it all worth it," said Sgt. Brian Anderson.
"I telled him that I love him and I missed him," said his daughter Jenna Anderson.
Besides family, the soldiers said they missed food and just the regular comforts of home.
